Workplace Bullying and Trauma

Trauma is a 'highly stressful experience which can result in permanent or temporary
physical and emotional effects.When a person becomes traumatized by an event there is an experience of either fighting, fleeing or freezing up. This effect can have a lasting experience on the individual.
When we look at the definition of bullying-it refers to a repeated and intentional act that deals with psychological or physical harm dealing with an imbalance of power. Trauma deals with a highly stressful experience in the face of a perceived threat to one's self or to someone close to the individual.
Often when one is bullied continuously one can develop symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder. This is especially a distress response experiences after a traumatic event like bullying, whose symptoms do not go away immediately.Since bullying is ongoing and sometimes goes undetected, individuals who are bullied can develop post traumatic stress disorder symptoms.
We want to create safe environments for all individuals on their jobs and at home by building trusting relationships in their environments.
