Encouraging Civility In Our Workplaces

It is important to foster a workplace culture of civility. One way to do this is by including civility in a workplace mission statement and to hold colleagues accountable (Society for Human Resource Management).

A leader or set of leaders can galvanize a more positive workplace culture. Cultivate trust and respectful behavior amongst colleagues.Train and coach employees to increase civility so that job turnover decreases and organizational commitment increases. Establish norms in the workplace like greeting and acknowledging one another, or welcoming feedback about work assignments in direct and sensitive ways.

In this way workplace bullying incidents will decrease.
